Get Juicy!! Sounds a little dirty doesn't it? Well that's because it is! Juicing can seem like a chore, but once you get past those deceiving barriors, you'll enjoy it more than cheeseburgers. Promise!

What barriors are am I talking about? I'm talking about any reasons you may decide to not try juicing. But I of course, will help you get over that!

1. It's really expensive...Juicers range in price. You can find a juicer on Amazon ranging anywhere from $45 to $300. If you're looking to invest in a nicer one, cut back on the partying for a couple weeks and save up some money! Also, the idea that 'eating is healthy is more expensive', has been proven as fiction not fact! (See my next blog for all those goods!) While juicing may be more expensive (depending on how often and what you're juicing), you can still shop efficiently to create your liquid masterpieces.

2. I don't/won't like it...You never know until you try. You'd be shocked at how delicious fresh fruits and veggies taste with the right combinations. A little tip on juicing veggies: add a kiwi, green apple, or a bunch of cranberries to make veggie juices taste fruity!

3. It takes to much time...here are several things you can do make the juicing process quick and easy! First, make sure all your things are washed and ready to eat. Second, cut up your fruits/veggies and store them in containers so they are ready to juice immediately. This includes removing seeds (apple seeds have traces of arsenic in them), citrus peels, stems, and stickers. Most juicers will juice right throught the skin on any other fruit/veggie.

So what's stopping you? Get out there and start juicing. Remember, juicing can be HEALTHIER for you than eating fruits and veggies for several reasons. You can fit more phytonutrients in a drink than you can eating. It takes more energy to break down all of the food you would be eating normally, and you get less nutrients.

The best part is creating your own juicy recipes. Here a few to get you started! Play with it and get creative!

Dream Green: Bunch of kale or romaine lettuce, 2 carrots, 1 stick of celery, and 1 red apple

Boost Juice: Bunch of kale, 1 beet, 1 whole lime, 1 kiwi, 2 carrots

A few general guidelines for juicing:

Remember that fruits have a good amount of sugar in them. While they are natural sugars and are good in moderation, sugar is sugar. Try and juice veggies with a little fruit rather than Fruits with a little veggie!

Use it all! Don't waste the pulp. We add water to it and freeze. They make italian icey knock offs! And they are full of fiber. I occassionally sprinkle some over my dogs food as well, they love it!

There are still things that are good for you, but shouldn't juice. Avocadoes and bananas for example give no juice! Add those items, and a juice to a blender to create a smoothie!

Good luck on your juicing journey!!!

To Bella:

I love the way you greet me, and smile when I come home,

Especially because I know, you don’t like to be alone

I think your soul is beautiful, and pleasant as can be,

I am so happy and grateful, that you love me!

I knew you were the one, when I saw your photo online,

So honored, to make you a part of mine

Your heart is warm and caring, your demeanor honest and real,

The second I met you in person, I knew we had a deal

So happy to save you and give you all you need,

I hope your soul is satisfied and freed

I love you like my family, and like I said before,

I’ll love you everyday, with all I can afford

Zumba may or may not be one of the best things that's ever happened to this country. It's an opportunity for all of the inactive overweight people who love music to get up...and shake their ass! In fact, it's an opportunity for ANYONE in this world to get up..and shake their lovely behind! It burns around 900 calories an hour and is pure fun.

I've been doing Zumba since I was a freshmen in college (now a recent graduate) and I must attribute my 'falling in love' with Zumba to one of the best instructors I've ever come across. Katie D. was energetic, fundamental, spunky, and right on cue. Her classes were never boring and most of all, I felt sexy and hip while doing it...(I suppose I don't feel that way generally?) Anyways, the transition form high school to college was a difficult one at first for me, as I was an all year round athlete in high school..moving into a non-team participation lifestyle. I now needed to find the motivation by myself to workout, rather than having practice time and a coach yelling over my shoulder. This was the perfect doorway. I went everyday it was offered and managed to limit the freshmen 15 to a mere freshmen 2.4 :)

I recommend Zumba to absolutely everyone. Men, women, kids, and seniors. You don't have to be of Hispanic origin nor do you have to have a background in dance. You need a positive attitude, energy, and the effort to take you into the music.

I like to make my classes similar to a club setting (minus drunk girls on bars and lots of alcohol). Loud, up-beat, up-lifting music that makes you want to shake and feel good! Dim the lights if you want and turn the strobe on! Zumba is a party!!!

Moral point of the story...Try it if you haven't, do it if you love it, and share it with a friend.

I offer private Zumba party style classes. Great for a birthday or a girl's day! Shoot me an e-mail and let's work it out!!

Until next time...

Food, love, and Zumba :)

Have you ever stopped to think about what exactly you're putting in your shopping cart? Did you ever stop to realize what actually makes up your cereal or your fruit juice? Yet we find ourselves closely examining the medications and perscriptions we give ourselves on a day to day basis. I hope the answer is yes for you! However millions of America are living their day to day life filling their grocery carts with nutrition deficient food, frankenfoods, and foods promising health promotion that are making them sick with chronic illness!! It's a terrible epidemic and it's causing our healthcare system to spiral out of control!

As human beings responsible for our own bodies, we need to become aware of food, nutrition, and the impact these things have on our well-being. We have moved away from our original hunter/gatherer ancestors and moved towards a highly preserved, processed, and manufactured food source.

What are some of the things you SHOULD be looking at when you grocery shop?

Ingredients:If there are more than 5 and you can't pronounce them, put it down!

Color: Food that are rich in color are the healthiest! Try new things and eat from the rainbow! Purple onions, green kale, red tomatoes, yellow squash, and fresh basil!

Quality: Eating organic is always ideal. However on a tight budget I definitely know that can be a bit heavy on the bank. Look for the "Dirty Dozen." There is a list of foods that are highly recommended you buy organic. Pesticide/herbicide usage are heavy on these items. Try organic for these choices...or even you grow your own! My sister has a beautiful garden that gives her family fresh clean veggies!

See http://bit.ly/tanyrR for "Dirty Dozen"

What are some things we should stay away from?

Labels: The more you can buy without a label, the better. This means you are buying from the outside perimeter of the grocery store. Your are purchasing fresh, whole, real food from the earth.

Hidden sugars: Hidden sugars are a very scary thing! They contribute to the alarming rates of diabetes and obesity in our country today. They can be found anywhere and everywhere, from juices, to cereals, and granola bars. Anything in the ingredients containing the end 'ose'. This includes those tricky corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup ingredients. Don't believe what you see on t.v. about the corn syrup horse****. Not only was it a big coverup to keep customers and confuse parents, but it is in the middle of a lawsuit that doesn't look to good for them!

What's In Daffnee's Cart?

Almond Milk (un-sweetened)

Frozen berries

Nut butter (peanut or almond)

Hummus

Olive oil

Bananas

Organic chicken breasts

Organic tofu

Kale

Tomatoes

Turnip Greens

Yellow Squash

Limes

So take the fake out and fill it with the real!

Until next time, Happy Shopping!

Constantly getting asked about gluten & lactose intolerance. If you want to know the story behind it (and the whole gluten sensation) Check this out:

1. Our bodies are NOT designed to break down gluten. What does this mean? Every time you consume gluten, you are fueling an allergic reaction inside your body
2. The result of eating gluten=Your stomach cannot process or break it down-So in turn your stomach becomes inflamed, making you look bigger than you are (ladiessss -_-) and creates a trifecta of nastiness.
3. What the hell is a 'trifecta of nastiness'-Well besides Daffnee language, it means that your body is doing everything it can to control this strange substance you put in your body & since it's struggling to do so, it's messing up other natural functions in your body causing...
4. Bad sking (pimples, acne, blotchines), improper bowel movements (you should be dropping one at least once a day, and very normal movements means around the same time each day), headaches, trouble sleeping, weight gain, and just about anything else bad you can think of.

So what's the deal with dairy than?
The entire "Got Milk" campaign was a joke. Thank you government/big corporations for misleading the entire country into an un-healthy pattern. We hope wiping your ass with money works out well for you while your country continues to be sick! :)
Moving on: Our bodies naturally lose the ability to break down dairy after about a year of life. The enzyme required to break down dairy no longer exists in our gut, meaning dairy sits in our bellies, without the ability to digest and leave properly. This is also results in skin issues, making you sick, and messing up your gut.

What can you do?
Begin by cutting those things out. Cold turkey is usually not recommended but I  say GO FOR IT! You can never begin to treat your body well to soon or to fast!
Try and replace those things containing gluten/dairy with other yummies
I use almond milk for my shakes/cereal and I've replaced regular bread with millet bread.
Don't get me wrong, I love cheese. I could eat it like I was getting paid for it! But remember, everything in moderation.
Love your body and it will love you back!
Til next time
Stay healthy, happy, and alive!
XOXO
